Qatar Airways new CEO: Badr Mohammed Al-Meer


For the last 27 years, Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer (CEO) was Akbar Al Baker. But now, Akbar Al Baker will be stepping down as the CEO. On November 5, 2023, Al Baker will hand over the reins to Badr Mohammed Al-Meer who will be the new CEO of Qatar Airways. 


Who is Badr Mohammed Al-Meer?

A graduate of the American University of Beirut and the University of Colorado, Badr Mohammed Al-Meer received his education in Lebanon and the United States. He has, nevertheless, had experience in the aviation industry. He has been serving as the Chief Operating Officer at Hamad International Airport (DOH) since 2014. He has played a key role in turning the airport into a major international hub and providing travelers with one of the best airport experiences in the world during the past nine years. In 2021 and 2022, Skytrax rated the airport the "World's Best Airport." Despite being named the second-best airport in the world in this year's awards, Hamad International Airport did win the title of "Best Airport in the Middle East" for the ninth consecutive year. Al-Meer is also in charge of successfully navigating the airport's operations during the epidemic, using cutting-edge technology to guarantee that visitors enjoy a quick and hygienic experience within the building. The Orchard, a 60,000-square-foot indoor tropical garden with a waterfall resembling the one at Singapore Changi Airport (SIN), opened at the airport in 2022 after a multiphase expansion plan.
